Nandi

Queen Nandi Zulu, 3 February 1993 - 28 April 2004

In March, 2004, Nandi was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Although her initial prognosis was good for many more months of life, she almost immediately stopped eating. She continued to lose weight for several weeks, but remained very active and alert until just a few days before the end. On April 28, she got up in the morning, walked a few hundred feet to one of her beds, and quietly died. She was outside, in the Spring air, in the mountains she loved. When we walked Bella later in the day, we were amazed by the beauty of hundreds of pasque flowers pushing up from the final remants of winter snow.
