Public Commission

Sacrifice

I am thrilled to have won my first big public commission. It is for the Pikes Peak Peace Officers Memorial in Colorado Springs. The male African lion will be 8-9 feet long when completed and is scheduled for installation in May 2009. I'm honored to be chosen to create my own interpretation of the Lucerne Lion, such an amazingly emotional piece. The Lucerne Lion was carved in stone, fortunately I have a much easier medium with clay.

New Gallery Representation

Gallery 210

I'm delighted to announce three new galleries representing my work: Gallery Two Ten in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The gallery opened in February with a black tie reception which I was able to attend. I also look forward to working with Riverbank Arts gallery in Stockton, New Jersey and soon on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts Cavalier Galleries. For a complete list of galleries where you cans see my work in person visit my exhibitions page.

Equidae Gallery Demonstration

Living Light Gallery

I enjoyed my visit to the horse racing season in Saratoga Springs so much last year that I decided to go again in 2008. On Friday morning August 31st I'll be giving a demonstration on how I sculpt an animal in clay. The identity of the animal is secret right now, even from me :) It could be a lion, a horse or maybe I'll play it safe and go with a dog. Please stop by Equidae Gallery and watch. I may be a little biased but I think Terry Lindsey has the nicest gallery in Saratoga!

Sculpting the Dog

Anna HH Great Dane

I am excited and honored that I have been given the opportunity to teach at the Center for American Sculpture located in beautiful Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina. The 5 day workshop is June 2-6 2008. I will cover many aspects of sculpting the dog including anatomy, movement and expression as well as how to treat fur and work with commissions. All levels are welcome, beginner to advanced. Brookgreen Gardens is a magical place, a sculpture garden like no other and an incredible environment in which to learn. Every sculptor needs to visit Brookgreen at least once in their life and if they're like me, they have to keep going back. Pictured above is a Great Dane sculpted by Anna Hyatt Huntington, who along with her husband, Archer Huntington, founded Brookgreen in 1931. Shown is the female, the male sits on the opposite gatepost guarding the original entrance to the gardens. There are over 1300 works of sculpture in the collection. Contact the Center for American Sculpture if you're interested in attending my workshop.

Museum Collection

The Apollo of Dogs

Speaking of Brookgreen Gardens......I'm thrilled to announce that my bronze pair of gatekeepers, The Apollo of Dogs have been added to the Brookgreen collection. I felt strongly that they belonged there, their classical style and ancient patina as well the fact that there are numerous opportunities to display gatekeepers in the gardens. Also, Anna Hyatt Huntington grew up with Great Danes and sculpted a few herself (see the sitting Danes above). They will join my life size Bella and the Bug which resides in a very prominent part of the gardens and I'm told she gets a lot of attention. Brookgreen Gardens.
